LOCKSTEP RELEASES BACKUP FOR WORKGROUPS VERSION 2.5 Scottsdale, Arizona USA - 5 October 2004 -- Lockstep Systems, Inc. today announced the release of Backup for Workgroups version 2.5. Backup for Workgroups is a disk-based backup and disaster recovery software utility designed for networked Windows servers and desktops. Designed for small offices and departmental workgroup environments, it empowers resource constrained companies with the ability to conform with data backup best practices while keeping control of their own data. Backup for Workgroups allows end users to quickly and easily set up a comprehensive backup and disaster recovery solution that takes advantage of the many affordable disk-based, external storage devices available today. End users save time and money when implementing Backup for Workgroups in their environment. Because Backup for Workgroups uses disk-based storage media, the cost of tape drives and tape media is eliminated. End users also benefit from faster backup and recovery times because hard drive access speeds are quicker than tape access. The new Backup for Workgroups Open File Add-On provides end users with the ability to perform complete, all-inclusive backups on computers that run applications that cannot be interrupted. The Open File Add-On can backup files that are in use at the time of backup, including Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange Server files. “Most small companies today have at least one Windows server that is running all the time, but they cannot justify the high cost of implementing a traditional tape backup solution with an open file manager,” said Karl Forster, president of Lockstep Systems, Inc. “With the introduction of our Open File Add-On, Backup for Workgroups offers a cost-effective backup solution at a fraction of the cost of tape backup solutions.” The Open File Add-On requires a Backup for Workgroups Client License and operates on computers running Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP. Backup for Workgroups offers separate Exchange Server and Active Directory Add-Ons to allow for the backup of Exchange Servers and Active Directory computers operating in a Windows 2000 or Windows NT environment. System Requirements. Backup for Workgroups is a client/server, disk-based backup and disaster recovery program which can be installed to backup one (1) or more Windows servers or Windows desktop computers to a single, centralized Data Repository. Server Software Requirements. The Backup for Workgroups Data Repository software runs on any Windows 2003 / XP / 2000 / NT / ME / 98 computer and consumes 10 MB hard disk space and needs access to sufficient hard disk storage space to hold the files that are backed up by the Backup Clients. Backup Client Software Requirements. The Backup Client software runs on any Windows 2003 / XP / 2000 / NT / ME / 98 / 95 computer and consumes approximately 50 MB hard disk space to store both the program files, data files, and reports. Add-On Software Requirements. The Open File Add-On requires Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP and a Backup Client license. The Exchange Server Add-On supports Exchange Server 2003 / 2000 / 5.5 and requires a Backup Client license. The Active Directory Add-On supports Active Directory within Windows Server 2003 / 2000 and requires a Backup Client license. Pricing and Availability. Backup for Workgroups version 2.5 can be purchased direct from Lockstep Systems’ website or from any authorized Lockstep reseller.
